80s Horror Movies

Having been born in 1979, I grew up as a child of the 80s which was a really interesting time for the horror movie genre. This was an era where things really started to get out of control; a time when it became more acceptable to use profanity, nudity, and excessive amounts of blood, guts and gore. It’s also an era with a burst of creativity with new concepts in the horror realm, some turning out to be master pieces that will be legends of their time, and others being so ridiculous that even those would form their own cult status amongst other 1980s horror movies.
In fact, the first horror film I ever saw was Return of the Living Dead, still one of my favorites. Interestingly, the 80s was a time when the zombie movie genre really started to take off, despite a number of classic zombie movies being made in the 70s such as Zombie Flesh Eaters and Dawn of the Dead, which really paved the way for a whole slew of low budget cheesy zombie films in the next decade.
And of course what really made 80s horror films so frickin’ sweet was the proliferation of slasher movies. Films like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street were childhood favorites which spawned not only their own endless cycle of sequels but an entire sub genre of slasher films.
What a wonderful decade of horror movies don’t you think? And if you’re not sure, then go ahead and peruse the the reviews below. Enjoy.
